the girl and the fig

For some foie gras is heaven, for others French fries earth. But Sonoma foodies know there is something between heaven and earth. A place where foie grass and French fries are forbidden fruits. Where there is a daily line of people waiting to get a taste. A taste of ‘country food with a French passion’. Passion that’s called The Girl and the Fig.

The Girl and the Fig was originally located in Glen Ellen, around the corner of the inspiring Jack London State Historic Park. Three years after turning on the stove in for the first time, owner Sondra Bernstein relocated to the northwest corner of Sonoma’s downtown Square. Here, for the past 13 years, the Girl and the Fig has been aging like a Sonoma Valley wine, creating a stunning bouquet of local flavors.

To enhance your culinary experience, try to book a table outside. In case you arrive in Sonoma by accident, it might be worthwhile to ask for a table in an hour or two, walk around the historic town a bit or step back in time visiting the Sebastiani Theatre on the other side of the square.

Once seated, seduction starts with the menu on which the restaurant’s signature dish, the grilled fig & arugula salad, is chaperoned by dishes featuring local seafood, meat, vegetables, cheeses and, we are in Sonoma with Napa around the corner, wines. The Fig’s staff is crisp, clean, fast and friendly though at rush hour you might have to wave once to get attention.

In case you are looking for a less formal, but equally tasty experience, you drive 15 minutes to Glen Ellen and get your shot of gourmet and grapes at the Fig Cafe & Wine bar.
