chicken run – wine cottage
Once the chicken capital of the world, today Petaluma is home to many chicken barns in ruins. But not all memories of the past have crumbled. Some got a second or third chance. Like the ‘Wine Country Cottage’ a Californian couple turned their barn into for example. It must be the happiest chicken barn in the world.
Petaluma is what many travelers would call ‘Off the beaten track’. But this picturesque town in the midst of California’s wine country is actually the Egg of Columbus for bohemians. Lunch in San Francisco, a late afternoon wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma and dinner in the historical downtown of Petaluma. If you like the sound of this, Petaluma is the place to be. Even if you don’t like the sound of this, Petaluma is the place to be as long as you stay at this wine country cottage with a unique bouqet.
Why? Because the former chicken barn is situated in a beautiful, lush and colorful landscape with rolling hills and a meandering stream. While quails live their nervous life as your neighbor on one side, you enjoy fresh eggs from your neighbors at the other side, chickens. Later in the afternoon, when the temperature is pleasant and the land is painted by the golden rays of the Californian sun, you’ll open the bottle of local wine you found when checking in, be quiet and just live, live, live.
The wine country cottage is surrounded by two acres of landscaped gardens and open space which you can enjoy from your private front porch and side garden with seating. The cottage has full amenities like: washer/dryer/full kitchen/full bath/double bed/heat/air cooler/Wireless Internet/Cable TV/Music and is approximately 30 minutes from California’s most tasteful vineyards and wineries. Downtown Petaluma boasts antique stores, the “Theater District” and many restaurants. One mile from your wooden sanctuary you’ll find the beautiful Helen Putnam Park with hiking and mountain bike riding possibilities. The coast is another half an hour drive and….lunch in San Francisco, including a breathtaking ride over the Golden Gate, is less than an hour away.
