a bite of bucktown
It was one of those Chicago nights. Chilly, wet and windy. After wiping its way through rush hour traffic and billions of raindrops, the cab dropped us of in Bucktown. North Damen number 1952 to be specific. Mirrored in the dark and wet road a brick building topped with a gabbled roof beckoned to people passing by. Promising warmth, shelter and, as it turned out, much more.
Takashi was the name of this establishment, named after the chef, Takashi Yagihashi. Born and raised in Japan, living a shell’s throw from the sea, the owner developed a taste for fresh seafood. Combined with a degree in Interior Design from the Tokyo Design School, Takashi-san works his magic to enchant both your mouth as your eyes.
Takashi’s menu is a mix between contemporary French-American cuisine and the art of Japanese cooking. From a ‘straightforward’ Market Menu to a Kaiseki menu, the restaurant offers the whole spectrum of culinary tricks and treats. All served in a relaxed setting by a enthusiastic staff that knows their wining and dining.
An evening of attractive looking dishes that caress the palate, chaperoned by fine wines is concluded with a desert that totally defines the finesse of Takashi. Presented in an eggshell, the chef has created an excellent symbiosis of savory and sweet represented by crème brulee, white chocolate, macaron and sea salt. A desert so savorysweet you’ll be tempted to order it by the dozen.
