fancy farm life

Luxury, hospitality, design and total relaxation is what you can expect to taste when you decide to take a bite out of the Apple, Pear or Cherry room at Belgium boutique Bed & Breakfast ‘de Grote Kievit’.

The owners Marc (interior designer) and Jan (landscaper) have taken B&B to a whole new level. At ‘De Grote Kievit’ you, unlike in many establishments these days, don’t have to think about to B or not to B. Here you have both B’s: a wonderful Bed(room) and an excellent Breakfast made with fresh and local ingredients.

Upon arrival at the beautifully located B&B, you’ll be welcomed with an aperitif in the huge landscaped garden. With a cow to the left, sheep to the right and chickens at the back, you’re reminded that ‘De Grote Kievit’ used to be a 19th century farm. Something easily forgotten being surrounded by tasteful contemporary (re-)design wasn’t it for the livestock and their contribution to your breakfast.

When not sitting somewhere in the garden or lounge in the huge barn that is used to serve breakfast, you can either hang on the sofa in your room or take a walk, hike, bike through the surrounding woods or visit one of many excellent restaurants in the neighboring village of Geel.

‘De Grote Kievit’ has only three rooms, Apple, Pear and Cherry of which the latter one can only be rented in combination with Pear. Either suite is a combination of high quality finishing and contemporary design. For just 120 euro a night for a couple (110 if you stay 2 nights or more), you’ll get a taste of Belgium ‘bourgondian’ life and a lifetime of yearning to come back.

On the Kievit site we read that: ‘De Grote Kievit’ is situated in the protected agricultural Kempen area with fields, farms, woods, the Prinsenpark, bogs and wonderful biking and walking routes… Peace, quietness, nature and relaxing…, but also very close to historical cities like Antwerp, Hasselt and Diest.
