a st. petersburg palazzo

Saint Petersburg was slowly awakening after a long winter sleep. Furnaces and central heating in Russia’s centre of baroque were still turned to tropical temperatures. As the first rays of sun warmed the black and brown streets, Saint Petersburgers headed for the old citadel walls, undressed and started a curious sunbathing custom.

We have all heard of the wonders of Saint Petersburg. It’s Amsterdam like canals, Italian architecture, tsar Peter the Great and the splendor of the Hermitage. And yes, the city has got it all.

One of the best ways to discover all of Saint Petersburg treasures (and customs) is to rent your own apartment. For instance this 230 square meters 19th century palazzo on Vasilievsky Island that we rented through AirBnB.

Spend your free time eating, drinking, talking and reliving another amazing day in Saint Petersburg at the kitchen table and be gently awakened by singing birds in the morning, have breakfast, play some ping pong in the living room and walk to another one of Saint Petersburg highlights.

In summer, when nights are virtually non-existent don’t forget about the time. You’re living on an island and on summer nights the bridges go up to let ships pass. Blagoveshchensky and Palace Bridges are raised at 01.25 and come back down again at 5.00. Blagoveshchensky, however, also comes down for a short while from 02.45 to 03.10. Don’t get stranded on the wrong side!

The Saint Petersburg palazzo is directly opposite the garden of the Academy of Arts. The Hermitage, St Isaac’s, and the Mariinsky Theatre are all 15-20 minutes’ walk away; the Menshikov Palace only 5.

As an apartment, this space is particularly suited to large families or small groups of up to 10 people. There are 4 bedrooms (3 with their own ensuite bathroom), 2 living rooms, and a large dining room /kitchen. It overlooks the ever changing garden at the back of the Academy of Arts, a scene you can enjoy from your balcony in the company of friends, family and a glass of wine.

Still no AirBnB account and looking for a 20 dollar discount on your first rental, mail us your name and e-mail address using the contact form (click here) and use AirBnB as subject. We’ll mail you an AirBnB invitation in return which you can use to subscribe to AirBnB (for free) and entitles you to a $20 credit.
